A large George II twin-handled cup and cover, Britannia standard silver, London 1728, maker’s mark ‘WI’, decorated with applied cut-card work to the lower half and the dome cover, reeded girdle and urn-shaped finial, leaf-capped scroll handles, supported on a stepped circular foot, engraved with armorials to body and cover, Lion rampant debruised by a bend, under ducal crown, purported to be of the Abernethy family. Weight 2571.0 grams (82.8 ozt), height 33.0 cm, 28.0 cm across handles.
