A small Indo-Portuguese blonde tortoiseshell veneered and ivory moulded and strung table casket. Late 17th/ early18th century. The rectangular bound and strung in ivory and fitted a pair of iron swing handles to its sides. The fall front opening to reveal one long drawer over five smaller drawers the larger central drawer with a hidden compartment. Supported on simple sledge feet. 22.6 cm wide x 15.8 cm deep x 15.8 cm high.

Condition Report

A central tortoiseshell panel of veneer missing and also some lengths of ivory molding missing from the fall

The top left (mine) strip of ivory stringing missing

The top drawer has some internal "Spandrel" corner brackets missing

The rear of the caskets has some losses to the central tortoiseshell panel and some corner stringing also.

To sum up, the casket is in fair structural order but will need some work to the stringing and tortoiseshell panels to make good.

No key is present.
