Condition Report
The top has an undulation in the ground that is showing through the veneer, the front right corner has two veneer patches the back corners also have veneer patches and some short lengths of replaced edge carved moulding,
The sides are unsplit but show some old amateur repairs to the crossbanding
The cross grain veneered drawer dividers has som patches .
The verticle backboards are a mixture of old sawn and planed chestnut (? A thick dark stain is applied) and Deal and show signs of old fixings and now panel pins, I think the backboards are replaced with old timber
The underside of the chest looks as if it has had some repair to the stacked block reinforcements bolstering the ogee feet, but the offset castors and other period fixings make me think that the feet have come loose and been refixed with most of their original blocks and off-set brass castors.
The fitted top drawer is missing its leathered sliding cover and of course its mirror.
The cockbeading has had some repair over its life and it could benefit from recolouring or redoing,
The swan neck handles and escutcheon look in keeping and if not original are not far off the period., but have been re-fixed with some hexagonal steel nuts in some casesThe drawers have been re-runnered to stay in service, and the drawer stops have been re-fixed and /or replaced, the second drawer from the top shows a faint crack from the drawer being pushed in with some force
The brushing slide is as expected but has been re-stopped with modern dowel
The feet are all there but do show a few patches to their extremities
The commode has NO key but all locks are open
The commode has seen some fairly crude repairs over the years but in essence, is right, these running repairs could be improved with modern practice and a more experienced/skilled hand
