Guild of Handicraft Ltd: a silver cigarette box, London 1903, with an enamel plaque by Fleetwood Charles Varley (1863-1942), decorated with a tree on a hillside under an orange and lilac sky, signed 'Varley' to lower right corner, of rectangular form with hammered finish on four bun feet, 'LBS' scroll monogram to the underside, 5.5 cm high x 16.3 cm x 9.8 cm, (515g).

The artist and enameller Fleetwood Varley (British 1863-1942) was a friend of C.R. Ashbee and worked at the Guild of Handicraft at Chipping Camden and is known to have collaborated with Ashbee on some of his works. His work for Haselers was most often sold through Liberty & Co. in London.

Condition Report

No apparent damage or repair. Enamel appears good. Silver tarnished in places, but no obvious dents
