The Swiss jeweller Gilbert Albert was born on September 30, 1930 in Geneva. His talent was noticed by Patek Philippe when he was only 25.

He worked there as part of the designer team and was head of the workshop from 1955 to 1962, during which he coined signature asymmetrical watches for the house. He also worked with Omega watchmakers creating the Arabesque d'Or collection seen here in this stunning 18ct yellow gold necklace and ladies dress watch coming up for auction on the 24th of March this month.

An item with historical and interesting background is lot 607, a pair of ladies early nineteenth century silver Ottoman hammam shoes (these being in the form of slippers).

During the period of the Ottoman Empire, women wore wooden clog style shoes when they went to the hammam or public bath house. These were often clad with decorated silver sheets; or applied silver decoration.

These slipper style shoes are much rarer and might have been owned and worn by a person of wealth of importance, perhaps a young girl, given the small size.
