IWC Schaffhausen was founded in Switzerland by American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones in 1868. Using the power of the nearby River Rhine to run the factory's machines, the brand's innovative spirit soon saw it become a household name. By the beginning of the Second World War the manufacturer was established in producing B-Uhren pilot's watches for the German Luftwaffe, a contract that ensured it's stability throughout those turbulent years. The 1960s and 1970s saw the development of the brand's chronograph offerings, and it was during this era that some of its most famed designs were produced.
IWC has enjoyed a number of successful partnerships over its history, one of the most notable being its close relationship with Ferdinand Porsche, who designed a number of iconic pieces. Additionally, in more recent times and continuing on the theme of IWC's engineering heritage, it is a presently a partner of the AMG Petronas F1 Team and has produced a number of timepieces in conjunction with the team.
