Fine Art, Antiques & Asian Art

Lot 133

A William III Kingwood walnut and laburnum bureau bookcase, the upper section with Vauxhall type mirror plates and candle slides, the overhanging middle section with geometric parquet worked fall opening to reveal a fitted interior with a central well, the base with two short over two long drawers with teardrop handles, on turned bun feet, 205 cm high x 96.5 overall width x 56 cm overall depth.

Sold for £6,500

Condition Report

Some short sections of cross-grain moulding missing

Inevitable degradation to the plates

Feet possibly replaced but in keeping with originals

Handles are good quality replacements, the rear of the drawers show old plugged, later handle fitting holes

It is possible that the interior contains elements of Cocus wood rather than Kingwood.

The items came from an established private collection in London

The whole thing has seen some restoration and work. I have tried to cover all areas but would encourage viewing in person.

Please call for an appointment.
