An early 20th century Martin Brothers triple bird group by Robert Wallace Martin, the central bird with outstretched wings around the shoulders of the outer birds, each with a detachable head, glazed in shades of blue, green and brown, dated to the reverse '1904', the heads each individually marked with a conforming date, mounted to a bespoke ebonised wooden base, 20.5 cm high x 22.5 cm wide (full dimensions), the group themselves being 18 cm x 18.5 cm. Provenance: Part of a single owner collection originally acquired directly from the Martin Brothers Pottery, by Samuel L. M. Avery Esq., a master builder and resident of Southall. Avery was a friend and acquaintance of the Martin family, often visiting the pottery where he bought pieces directly from them for his own collection. The collection was inherited by his descendants and has remained in the family ever since, only being recently discovered following the passing of his daughter.
