Two hooded robes, from the collection of Vivian Stanshall, founding member of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, one red with a v-neck opened front secured by four string ties and a tasselled robe belt of the same fabric and three-quarter length sleeves, 148 cm collar to hem, 67 cm arm pit to arm pit, the second a black leopard print with split front secured with royal blue silk ties, sequined hood, lapels and cuffs, both with royal blue trim, and a tasselled rope belt of same black leopard print fabric, 155 cm collar to hem, 52 cm armpit to armpit. The latter was worn in the performance of 'Spreading the Light', and the red robe, probably in 'Stinkfoot'. Also included is a large painted wood 'lightning bolt', (154 cm), also from 'Spreading the Light', with typed labels verso with the text titled 'Prologue'.

From the personal collection of Vivian Stanshall (1943-1995), English singer/songwriter, and founder member of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Selected personal items from the collection of Vivian Stanshall, the singer and founding member of the highly influential British art rock group, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Consigned by Vivian’s son, Rupert Stanshall, the items provide a unique link to the life and work of ‘Viv’, once described by his Bonzo bandmate, Neil Innes, as ‘a national treasure’.

Condition Report

noticeable stains to the bottom front and sleeve of the red robe, patches made to cover holes but blend nicely with the robe's overall style, signs of previous wear throughout, shoulder pad missing in the black robe, noticeable dirt stains at the bottom
