Jacques, London: a 'Staunton Chess Men' boxwood and ebony chess set, mid-19th century, contained in a Gothic Revival carton-pierre papier-mache casket, with a blue velvet-lined interior and red velvet exterior, the white King stamped Jacques London, 8.5 cm high, a rook and a knight of each with red crown stamp, with kite registration labels affixed to some, the casket with paper label to the base carrying the number 2158, 10 cm x 20.5 cm x 15 cm.

Condition Report

Some staining and wear to both of the black knights, other pieces with light wear. No hinge to the box, which has chips to the corners. General wear throughout commensurate with age, but structurally sound.Registration stickers on all but six pieces.

Some slight disparity in the dimensions and profiles evident in the pawns.
