Shmuel (Samuel) Dresner (Polish, 1928-2019), Abstract face in whites, blacks and reds, signed 'Dresner' (lower right and verso), oil on canvas, 63 x 75 cm, framed 65 x 77 cm

Dresner was the only survivor of his family in the concentration camps of the Second World War and came to England in 1945 as one of the child refugees known as 'the Boys'. He spent four years in Windermere, where he started to paint as therapy. With no photographs of his family in his possession, his paintings reflect his memory of them and his early experiences in the camps.
