Of Travel and Exploration Interest : An unusual 19th century souvenir depiction of the British fleet entering Constantinople possibly watercolour on paper, housed in a custom made morocco leather case. Together with two period letters describing the 'memento of my existence' sent from Constantinople, together with another letter from the same year sent from St. James's Street, London and a contemporary newspaper cutting documenting the event.  Both letters refer to Admiral Dundas, presumably Admiral Sir James Whitley Deans Dundas GCB (1785-1862) who served as a Royal Navy officer in the Napoleonic Wars and also served as a Whig MP for Greenwich and later Devizes. He was appointed Commander in Chief in the Mediterranean in 1852 and led all naval operations in the Black Sea including the bombardment of Sevastopol in October 1854 during the Crimean War.
