A 1930s Rolex stainless steel wristwatch the square cushion-shaped silvered dial with script Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and blued steel hands, the case back engraved with initials AHB 1936 and numbered 019168 2008, the 15 jewel mechanical hand-wound movement signed Rolex Prima. 28 mm wide case, on a black leather strap. Provenance: The watch reputedly belonged to Alfred Hamilton Barr, Jr. (1902-1981) the first director of MoMA - The Museum of Modern Art in New York. It was given to him as a birthday present from Mrs. Simon Guggenhiem on the opening of the first New York exhibition ‘Cubism & Abstract Art’ in 1936’, where some of the most important artists of the 20th century were first shown.
