Lot 13 - Attributed to Gillows. A rare George III...

Attributed to Gillows. A rare George III mahogany shell collecting cabinet and contents, c1780-95 the rising top with segmented symmetrically assembled divisional tray lifting to reveal a further divisional platform in the form of the Union flag, above two dummy drawers and flamed veneered hinged panelled doors revealing a trio of matched drawers, all supported on a stand with dummy frieze drawer and tapering squared legs with satinwood cross-banding, detailed throughout with satinwood pin-stripe borders, the lid exterior decorated with a detailed inlaid shell. Accommodating a large old collection of exotic sea shells. 101 cm high, 57 cm wide, 38.5 cm deep, the stand-alone 56 cm high. A similar example can be seen in Gillows of Lancaster & London 1730-1840 by Susan E. Stuart, page 116 plate 69.
