Sam Herman (born 1936) Mexican / British   a shouldered vase with swollen body, elliptical section, the opaque glass body with blue and white panel inclusions, the surface decorated with metallic oxide iridescent finish, etched signature to base, CAM 112, 27 cm x 12 cm. One of Harvey Littleton's first students, Sam Herman is credited as one of the founders of the Studio Glass movement in Great Britain. He was seminal in spreading the idea of the movement through his teaching positions in England, tutoring at the Royal College of Art and the Buckinghamshire College of Higher Education, and at the Jam Factory Workshops in Adelaide, Australia, and through the exhibition of his own sculpture in glass. Herman has resided and established his personal studio in London, England and South Australia, and from 1993 to the present he has maintained studios in Spain and England, he is represented by The Frestonian Gallery (London) and is known to be one of the best living contemporary glass artists.
