Two 19th century or earlier Persian miniatures
to include a hand painted map of Europe depicting a Crusader with the Templar's cross, a Viking with Norse ships, and inscribed in Arabic throughout, 41 cm x 32 cm full sheet, a large miniature painting depicting an enclosed marquis witn figures, within an ornate painted frame and border, 47 cm x 34 cm full sheet, together with a later miniature depictting a seated man holding a sword in a ritual pose, above two seated women reading accompanied by pet deer, the image 28 cm x 18 cm, and an Indian miniature, depicting a young ruler smoking, 24.5 cm x 18 cm full sheet.

Condition Report

The map has foxing, tears, stains, losses and wear throughout. The miniature with the two women petting a deer is in good condition, the frame has some wear and light damage but the central illustration is fine. The miniature with an enclosed marquis and figures is very worn, three of the corners have been ripped off and the fourth is completely bent and about to fall off, there are creases/bends to the centre of the work creating loss of paint, it is generally worn. The final miniature has loss of red paint to the frame, one corner ripped off and general wear commensurate with age, there are signs of foxing to the back of the work.
