Fine Art, Antiques & Asian Art

  Lot 258

A set of six George IV mahogany dining chairs with broad cresting rails and reeded uprights, above stuff over upholstered seats on turned supports.

Sold for £90

Condition Report

The frames are quite firm

The cresting rails show old "clumsy" veneer patches

Some chairs have had patches around the dovetail housing to cresting rails where the stiles joint into them

Some Cresting rails are a little loose, but not hanging off

Some back seat rails show old woodworm flight holes that have come through from the actual beech rail through the mahogany capping

To sum up, these chairs will need some work but they are structurally good with the usual problems around the crestings that you commonly see

The woodworm is not at the infestation level.
