Lot 271 - A quantity of individual chess pieces...

A quantity of individual chess pieces including bone pieces from different early 19th century Pulpit sets, an elegant early 19th century Dutch knight, an ivory Indian rook from Berhampur (A/F), various Chinese figural pieces and part pieces, a leather early 20th century pocket chess set lacking one celluloid piece, a Wedgwood king and queen by Arnold Machin, five German wooden bust figures – a king, a bishop and 4 pawns – and a pawn from a Philidor set (missing lead weight).  Sold with a photocopy of the 2nd edition of British Chess Sets, which includes an illustration of a Philidor set. Also, a late 19th or early 20th century part Indian Muslim ivory set of abstract design, except that the bishops have had small elephants placed on the original bases, one side with red decoration and the other with black decoration, the red side lacking 3 pawns and the black side lacking a knight, a rook and four pawns (23 pieces), kings 5.9cm, and an Indian wooden box board inlaid in ivory and  for chess, with some decorative inlay missing.
