Having looked at each chest it is apparent that these are veneered in ebony but contrary to the norm these are veneered front to back in small strips of around four inches and a thick lacquer has been applied.
The chests have some sign of shrinkage that shows through the veneer and the chest sides are both split
The ground is Birch and the linings are pine.
