A Soviet porcelain chess set “The Reds and the Whites†designed by Natalia Danko. 20th century. The set has the State Porcelain hammer and sickle Factory Mark and date 1923, with Natalia Danko’s Cyrillic monogram but is a later copy. White king 10.7 cm. Natalia Danko (1892-1942) was the head of the sculptural department of the State Porcelain Factory in Petrograd (St. Petersburg/Leningrad). She was caught up in the siege of Leningrad and died soon after escaping from the city.
