A George III, "Chippendale" style mahogany open armchair with acanthus a floral carved and pierced cresting rail and splat and arcaded shoe. With channeled swept arms. Above a serpentine stuff over seat. On molded and chamfered square supports joined by a simple cross stretcher. 49 cm high to the seat x 96 cm high to the back x 64 cm wide.

Condition Report

Joints of the seat loose

The cresting rail is a little loose but hasn't broken across the short grain as they usually do. However, there is a sign of some work to the top of the back splat at the rear under the cresting.

The rear stretcher has probably been replaced

The back seat rail looks odd and may have been replaced or re-faced as it seems to have been laid on another piece of timber.

Some nocks and missing sections of molded bead to the front legs

Old damage to the shoe below the splat

I can not see the seat rails and so can not speculate fully but they seem solid.

Generally needs some work to make good
