Lot 60 - Attributed to Charles Louis Muller (1815-1892)...

Attributed to Charles Louis Muller (1815-1892) French 'l'appel des dernieres victimes de la terreur', (Appeal of the last victims of the Terror), a famous scene depicting the appeal for the guillotine of condemned people during the last days of the Terror in 1794 during the French Revolution. During these 3 days of the 25th to 27th July 1794, 133 people were condemned to death and executed. Oil on canvas in an elaborate gilt gesso frame with scrolled harebell and ribbon decoration. 44.5 x 79 cm.
