Lot 8 - A late 20th century Stephen Newby 'Inflated'...

A late 20th century Stephen Newby 'Inflated' stainless steel bench comprised of two stainless steel mesh 'cushions' mounted on to a u-shaped tubular base, with flanges to screw it to the ground, 163cm long, 29cm high, 47cm deep. Artist and sculptor Stephen Newby began working with stainless steel in 1995, and developed a unique process to 'inflate' metal, giving a soft, rounded and organic feel to this hard-lined and rigid industrial material. He founded 'Full Blown Metal' in 1996, and patented his technique in 2001. His sought-after designs comprise pieces made for domestic and commercial interiors to public installations and architectural features, and range in size from penholders to seating to large sculptures. He has produced work for Canary Wharf Group, Arts Council England, Louis Vuitton, and Zaha Hadid Architects.
