Dawsons’ Jewellery, Watches & Silver auction a sparkling success

Diamond is the birthstone for April, and diamonds certainly were the main attraction this month

As a team, we were thrilled with the results achieved for our customers

As is well known, the diamond is the hardest gem on earth… and perhaps not quite so well-known, as a birthstone it corresponds to Aries, or the month of April. As a gemstone, it will last forever, and thus it symbolises a deep commitment to a relationship, which is why the diamond is used in symbolic jewellery, such as engagement and marriage rings.

Dawsons bespoke marketing to a huge global audience, is designed to create a highly competitive bidding environment and ensure the maximum return on every item we take to auction. April’s sale certainly attracted a very large number of bidders - the diamonds on show were a big attraction!

Rather fittingly, the star of the show was an impressive solitaire diamond ring (above) of approximately 5.0 carats. Forming part of a private client’s estate sale, this incredible ring was subject to furious bidding online and over the telephone - eventually selling for an impressive hammer price of £27,000.

Running a very close second were a pair of Old European cut solitaire diamond earrings (above), the diamond in excess of 6.0 carats. These beautiful earrings also proved extremely popular with bidders from across the globe and ensured that a superb result was achieved for our private client, with the gavel finally dropping at a hammer price of £17,500.

One of the most beautiful items (above) to have featured within the April Jewellery, Watches & Silver auction was a diamond, ruby, and sapphire butterfly brooch, late 19th / early 20th century, the abdomen set with mixed rose-cut diamonds and a round white pearl, the ornate wings set with graduated round-cut rubies and sapphires, and old-cut diamonds. This gorgeous brooch sold for £3,100.

Another lovely pair of earrings, this time set with a pair of round brilliant-cut diamonds (above), of approximately 4.0 carats also featured prominently within this wonderful sale, and once again diamonds proved to be a huge attraction to the many competitive bidders who were in keen attendance – both online and via the telephone, with the earrings eventually selling for £9,000.
