Peter Cushing (1913-1994) five vintage Mabel Lucie Attwell colour postcards sent by the actor to his wife, Helen, 1950-1954 –

each postcard, hand-written in blue and black ink, dated, 16. XI. 50 Liverpool, 8. VI. 54, 9. VI. 54, postmarked 23 June, 1954, 20. VIII. 55, 22.VIII. 55, Cushing updated his wife with his news and expressed throughout how much he missed her, and many are signed off by the actor with a doodle of a dog bone and paw print, each 4 x 9cm. Peter Cushing was a British actor whose career spanned over six decades and included appearances in over 100 films. He achieved recognition for his leading performances in the Hammer Productions horror films in the 1960s and 70s, and as Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars (1977). Cushing was a prolific writer to his wife whilst they were apart, and frequently used pet names as in this case, and often sent her postcards by Mabel Lucie Attwell. He was famously devoted to his wife, Violet Hélène Beck, and in later years Cushing became increasingly reclusive following her death in 1971.
