Circle of Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680), a late 17th century portrait of a woman, possibly Lady Henrietta Maria, Queen Consort of England (1609-1699), finely dressed and wearing pearls, oil on canvas, 71 cm x 56.5 cm in a gilt frame.

Private London collection. It comes with a hand-written from 'J. Singer, Paintings and Antiques, 46 Cawdor Crescent, London W7, dated May 1956, giving attribution to the workshop of Lely, as well as the potential sitter. He states 'it comes from the collection of John Morant, Brockenhurst Park, Brockenhurst Hampshire'.

Condition Report

Re-lined in the 20th century. Scratch to right-hand side of canvas, but no apparent tears or repair. Some pinhole size areas of paint loss (visible to her face). Some surface abrasion is visible on close inspection. Frame with some wear and discolouration, but generally good.
