A Martin Brothers large double-sided stoneware face jug, dated 1899, modelled in relief to both sides with a grinning face and white-highlighted eyes, incised marks to base, 'Martin Bros, London & Southall' and '5-1899', 19.5 cm high.

From a private collection. Handed down through the family to the current owner, believed bought originally by their grandparents.

Condition report

Firing crack evident to the top of the jug, where the handle meets the spout, crazing elsewehere, but no apparent damage or repair.
