Gina Lollobrigida was one of the highest-profile European actresses of the 1950s-60s. She was suspended by Howard Hughes in 1950 when she refused the terms of his preliminary seven-year, three picture deal contract and despite selling RKO pictures in 1955, Hughes retained Lollobrigida’s contract which prevented her working in American films shot in the United States until 1959. During the 1970s, she established a second career as a photojournalist and achieved a scoop by gaining access to Fidel Castro for an exclusive interview.
