Alan Fearnley (b.1942), The Centenary Test Match at Lord's 1980, signed and dated '80, oil on canvas, 76 x 102 cm, framed, frame 89 x 115 cm

The Centenary Test Match was played between Australia and England, and was not without controversy. A heavy downpour on the Saturday morning left parts of the square sodden. Despite the rest of the day being sunny, it prevented play from starting until mid-afternoon, much to the consternation of the crowd and MCC members. The match ended in a draw.
