Joseph Herman M.B.E R.A. was born in Warsaw into a Polish-Jewish family, where he attended the Warsaw school of art. He left Poland at the age of 27 to live and work in Belgium fleeing there for France due to the German invasion of Belgium and then sought refuge in Glasgow in Great Britain and then moved to London where he held his first exhibition alongside fellow artist L.S. Lowry.

Herman often painted working people and peasants and was inspired by observing Welsh working folk during his time working in Ystradgynlais, Powys, Wales.

Condition Report

No apparent major defects evident or issues under UV light. Some rubbing to edges, possibly from the frame, but nothing detrimental
