Gary Morgan initially approached Sir Roger in 2003 with his portfolio and was commissioned by the actor to paint his portrait which Gary Morgan presented to him in 2004. The portrait (not present in this Lot) was later placed in Sir Roger’s personal bar, in his chalet in Switzerland

When Sir Roger next met the artist, he said how much he liked the portrait but wished in hindsight, that his wife Kristina had featured. Gary Morgan suggested that he would paint a second portrait of them together, which is this portrait, which was referenced by Gary Morgan in the accompanying contact sheet of portrait photographs, also commissioned by Sir Roger, and taken by his long-Terry O’Neill, in the early 2000s, for Spotlight / Agency, and publicity use.

This portrait hung in pride of place on the wall of Sir Roger Moore’s Pinewood Studios office which he had kept from 1970 until his death in 2017, and after Sir Roger’s death, Lady Moore suggested that Gareth Owen, as Sir Rogers’ long time Personal Assistant and friend, should have the painting as she did not have any room in her Monaco apartment.

The portrait subsequently hung in Gareth Owen’s Pinewood Studios office from 2017 until the present day.
