The Beatles:The Merseybeats: Louise Harrison and Walter Shenson Letters; Photographs; and Poster, 1964-1967 –

The Beatles: Seven original photographs. Five of which are colour photographs, taken outside the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay, when the Beatles were on their Magical Mystery Tour filming across the South of England in the autumn of 1967, each 3 ½ x 3 ½ inches; Two black and white photographs, the first: depicted George Harrison tuning his guitar, the second; depicted Paul McCartney in the background signing an autograph for a fan, both of which were taken during rehearsals for a Beatles concert held in Brighton, July 1964, each 4 x 4 inches.

The Beatles: Louise Harrison (1911-1970). A folded floral greetings card, handwritten, and Signed in blue ink by George Harrison’s mother, who enclosed a piece of George Harrison’s jacket that he wore at the Cavern Club in 1960,. . . ‘Jacket Worn at Cavern 1960 . . . ‘, the small piece of fabric originally taped inside the card (now detached), 5 x 4cm;

The Beatles: Louise Harrison (1911-1970) Typed Letter, c. 1964, single-page, sent to ‘Mary’ handwritten in blue ink, from 174, Mackets Lane, Woolton, Liverpool, 25, (George Harrison’s third home from 1962), Louise Harrison thanked Mary thanking for a gift she had sent to George, and apologised for her short note as she was busy answering all the mail, 12.5 x 20 cm; both within an original pink envelope addressed to Mary Holdsworth in Louise Harrison’s hand, postmarked Liverpool, 1964.

The Beatles: Walter Shenson (1919-2000) Typed Letter Signed, c. 1964, single-page, the American film producer/director/ writer, wrote to Miss Barbara Cooper and invited her and her best friend to take part in the Beatles film, A Hard Day’s Night (1964). Shenson thanked Miss Cooper for her letter and offered the girls a chance to play the parts of Dave Clark and George Harrison’s fiancées in the film, and advised he would write to their headmistress and arrange an audition date. However, the headmistress refused to give her permission, and two very disappointed schoolgirls were prevented from making their screen debuts and filming with their idols, 17 ¼ x 23cm.

The Merseybeats, Autographed Granada Woolwich Beat Tour Poster, 1965, signed on the reverse by Bill Kinsley, Tony Crane, Aaron Williams, and one other, 10 x 8 inches; together with, three photographs, including a colour photograph depicted the boys on the holiday in Rimini, various sizes, the largest, 4 x 6 inches, contained within a Boots Film Service folder.

Provenance:

The Collection of the late Mary Holdsworth, Script Supervisor (1949-2024) who took these photographs as a teenager and often write to Louise Harrison. Mary and her best friend, Barbara Coooper, were huge Beatles fans in the 60s, and attended shows at the London Palladium, Woolwhich Granada, Hammersmith Odeon, weekend balls, and as many television studios and events they could to see their idols John, Paul, George, and Ringo.

Mary Holdsworth, Script Supervisor worked on numerous films television series including, P’tang, Yang, Kipperbang (1982), Gorky Park (1983), The Company of Wolves (1984), Absolute Beginners (1986), Gorillas in the Mist (1988), Batman (1989) and many others.
