Take a closer look at August's Fine Art & Antiques sale

Here are the Fine Art highlights from the day

The 26th of August saw excellent results for Dawsons Fine Art, Antiques & Asian Art auction.

The star of the show within this month's Fine Art, Antiques & Asian Art auction was without a doubt a picture by Girolamo Gianni titled; 'View of Valetta'. It was an oil on board, signed and dated 1882. This beautiful piece generated a huge amount of bidding interest from across Europe and exemplified how Maltese art has recently seen an extensive rise in buyers' interest.

Moving on to lot 53, which was an eye-catching Mary Fedden. This picture features a bird in a landscape, gouache on paper and was signed 'Fedden' - dated 1987. As to be expected with any work by Mary Fedden, it was also a keen favourite with Dawsons' audience of bidders across the globe.

Mary Fedden proved a keen attraction at this month's Fine Art auction. Indeed, August's sale featured another one of her brilliant pieces in the list of popular items - in this case her picture, 'Eggs in bowl and lemon', gouache on hand-woven paper, signed and dated 1982. This example of her work also generated a great deal of worldwide interest amongst those bidding on the day.

An oil on board picture by Peter Brook titled, 'Looking into the Cheviots', and dated November 1996 was of great interest amongst our bidders. This unique piece was from a private collection and after some lengthy bidding it eventually fetched £2,100.

Also amongst the favoured pictures on the 26th August was the magnificent 'Figures on a Beach' piece by Fred Cuming - signed to the lower-left corner.

Last but certainly not least was a picture by Sir Sidney Nolan. Shown is an abstract figure in a landscape, within a contemporary frame. This work by Sir Sidney Nolan sold for £2,800 on the day.
