A fine late 16th / early 17th century Indo-Portugese Gujurat mother-of-pearl and silver mounted bowl together with a further brass mounted shallow dish both constructed from layers of cut, polished and arranged pinned panels, the footed cylindrical bowl formed on 15 vertical cut sections, with a studded base below a chased circular foot, the white metal mounted rim (unmarked) inscribed with ecclesiastical Latin script: MEMORIÆ CHRISTIANITATIS ELIZABETHÆ KIGHLEY CONSANGVINIÆ GVILIELMVS WHELLER · HERVEVS TESTIS INDIGNVS CONSEGRAVIT DITTONIEE IN COMITATV SVRRIE SEPTEMBR 1625, translates loosely: In Christian memory of Elizabeth Kighley wife of William Wheller. Unworthy witness has consecrated [the marriage] at Ditton in the county of Surrey September 1625. 7.5 cm cm high, 10.5 cm wide at mouth. Together with a further shallow circular Gurjurati pinned dish of the same period, composed from 81 panels with central alignment depicting a lotus or rose above a raised circular foot, with brass mounts, 16 cm diameter, 3 cm high. (2)  Provenance: These items were gifted to the vendor during a trip to Australia in the 1960's.
