An Edwardian gilt/silvered Baroness coronet formerly belonging to Lady Lamington. The circular gilt band trimmed with ermine and applied with six balls beneath a red velvet top with gold-threaded finial, 12.5cm diameter at base. (See provenance below)
Provenance: This coronet belonged to Lady Lamington, wife of the last Governor of Queensland and Bombay and served as Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Mary. She was an active charitable patron an official society hostess of the colony, a St. John's Ambulance home nurse, and early advocate of women's health rights. According to the accompanying note this was purchased from the family's estate after the title became extinct in 1951. The popular Australian delicacy 'Lamington' chocolate sponge cake was created in her honour by the Government House chef for one of her regularl 'At Home' events.
