Henry William Dee - a pair of Victorian novelty silver candlesticks, with cast columns depicting three faces in differing stages of falling asleep - in repose, yawning and somnolent; above spreading circular bases with dress from day to night wear, and on three cast slipper feet; detachable nozzles above curly hair, with candle snuffing covers in the form of tassled night caps. The bases and one nozzle, London 1877. One nozzle and the nightcaps, later and unmarked. 21.5cm high, 633 grams (20.3ozt).

Retailed by Boudet Palais Royal (engraved to the base).

Henry William Dee and his brother Louis were both silversmiths in their father's silversmithing and jewellery business, which was established in the 1820s. They made interesting and unusual, often novelty objects for high-end retailers in London and Paris.
