R.B. Cunninghame Graham (1852 - 1936), was a Scottish politician, writer and adventurer. He became Liberal MP for North Lanarkshire in 1886, campaigning for universal suffrage, home rule for Scotland, free school meals, abolition of the House of Lords and a programme of nationalisation. In 1887 he was suspended from the House of Commons for bad language and imprisoned for six weeks for demonstrating in Trafalgar Square. He helped establish the Scottish Labour Party and stood as a Labour Party candidate in the 1892 general election. In 1928 he was involved in establishing the National Party of Scotland and was elected the first President of the Scottish National Party in 1934.
