Condition Report

Framed as oval. The canvas has been lined. The cardboard backing has only been partially removed so the whole of the verso has not been inspected. There are several old tears and damages including a 10 x 5 cm tear to sky upper right, a smaller tear in sky upper left, to one of the tambourine jingles, to centre of left edge, a repaired tear to the centre of the tambourine, a small damage to the girl's hair, and elsewhere. Some of the tears have specks of associated paint loss. There are further scattered specks of loss. The canvas is dirty and will benefit from a clean. Scattered areas of craquelure are visible throughout and stretcher impressions are also visible. UV light reveals a dirty streaky varnish through which it is difficult to get a reading. However, retouching is visible to aforementioned repaired tears and old damage in hair, and scattered touches throughout. There is also discoloured retouching visible in the sky near the upper edge and the repaired tear to the tambourine.
