Dawsons are delighted to be auctioning a privately curated collection of Tribal Art within a specialist sale on Tuesday 26th April from 9.30am BST.
All pieces are available to view by private appointment, at our new Maidenhead showrooms on Friday 23rd and Monday 25th April. Virtual viewings are also available. The full sale catalogue is now online to view here.
Dawsons’ Tribal Art specialist, Richard Harrison explains… “This really is an extremely exciting single owner sale (part one of a two part sale - the second of which is scheduled for August), with all of the items coming from a private collection that was put together by Andrzej von Staranburg Niedenthal, who was an art collector and dealer.
Andrzej sadly passed away, leaving behind his life’s work – a vast collection of African Tribal Art in all its forms. The majority of the collection comprises of masks & sculptures from the tribes of West and Central Africa.
Andrzej’s journey into the realm of Tribal Art was forged through his love of travel, culture, and anthropology. A truly global citizen, his many expeditions across the globe, culminated in him encountering his spiritual home... Africa.
Andrzej appreciated not only the aesthetic beauty of the artifacts, but also the spiritual, symbolic, and ritualistic meaning connected to them. His encyclopedic knowledge of the art and its origins was formed through a combination of life experience and study.
This encyclopedic knowledge meant that his expert opinion and eye was well respected by all. Andrzej’s love of the art-form, and the attachment that he had to his pieces, meant that he was more of a collector than a dealer.”
Please do get in touch if you are keen to discuss any of the items that are coming up for sale in more detail or would like to receive condition reports.
