Does Hublot Have Resale Value?

Hublot watches are not known for their understated elegance

06/03/2025

Hublot, the luxury Swiss watchmaker founded in 1980 by Carlo Crocco, is celebrated for its innovative designs and high-quality craftsmanship. Despite being a relative newcomer to the market, Hublot has carved out a statement niche in the watchmaking industry, blending traditional Swiss craftsmanship with avant-garde materials and design, a philosophy marketed as the ‘Art of Fusion’. For instance, Hublot was the first brand to combine a gold watch and rubber strap in the same model, blending past and present in what, for the time, was considered revolutionary. Other Hublot innovations include Magic Gold, a scratchproof 18K gold alloy, synthetic sapphire which creates an incredibly durable transparent case, and high-tech ceramic. Synthetic sapphire and ceramic can come in different, vivid colours, further confounding the traditional image of the luxury Swiss watch.

Sold for £8,000

Hublot watches are not known for their understated elegance - this is a brand that makes a bold and daring statement about the wearer which is enhanced by high visibility celebrity endorsements and sponsorships. Official timekeepers of FIFA and UEFA, whilst also worn by stars as diverse as Usain Bolt, Lay Zhang and Depeche Mode, the brand has an extensive and glamorous reach and, as such, there is a significant collector and re-sale market.

There are several models that are particularly prized, most notably the Big Bang Collection, The Classic Fusion line, and the complex, innovative, MP (Masterpiece) Collection. The appeal of these prestigious flagship lines is further enhanced by the scarcity of limited production editions. This was recognised in 2009 by then Hublot head, Jean-Claude Biver, in an interview with the Economist; ‘People want exclusivity so you must always keep the customer hungry and frustrated.’ Whilst there may have been industry criticism aimed at the number of limited editions Hublot launches, they keep the collectors’ market vibrant, driving prices and demand sky high for limited editions and their special features.

Sold for £7,500

It should be noted, when selling a Hublot watch, if it is a well maintained and serviced model that includes an original box and papers, it will fetch a higher price, as this indicates a provenance that is very appealing to a collector and/or potential buyer. It is also worth noting that whilst papers may indicate authenticity, only expert, independent assessment can confirm a genuine article.

With many years of experience selling Hublot watches at auction combined with a trusted reputation for transparency and integrity, the friendly team at Dawsons is ideally placed to assess your watch. Providing accurate market valuations at either our Hampstead or Berkshire office, we can help ensure that sellers receive the highest prices for their watches.
