Dawsons Auctioneers are delighted to announce we are selling two watches belonging to the late Hollywood actor, Peter O’Toole, in our Watches auction on Thursday 17th November 2022.
Brought directly to us by the vendor, the two luxury time pieces were regularly seen worn by O’Toole, and both featured in his 1983 Letterman appearance, where he famously wore one on each wrist. Both watches boast extraordinary provenance, one is an Audemars Piguet 18ct yellow gold reference 5548 Quantieme Perpetual Calendar, valued at £20,000-£30,000, and was gifted to O’Toole by an Arab Sheikh for his iconic performance in Lawrence of Arabia. The other is a Baume & Mercier Riviera watch, valued at £2,000-£3,000 that he wore at several public events, including the 75th Academy Awards in 2003, where he was presented with the Academy Honorary Award for his career achievements.
“Peter O’Toole was a legendary British stage and film actor, known for both his roles on screen and ‘hellraising’ personality off screen. We’re delighted to have been instructed to sell two of his personal wristwatches. The Audemars Piguet is extra special as it was gifted to him by the Sheik of Saudi Arabia as recognition of his iconic role playing Lawrence of Arabia for which he received his first nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor.” – Aubrey Dawson, Managing Director
