Diamond jewellery is the ultimate in glamour and luxury. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings embellished with sparkling diamonds never go out of fashion. They are also closely associated with love and romance, especially post the extraordinarily successful 1947 DeBeers campaign ‘A diamond is forever’... Indeed, since then, diamonds are now the most popular stone for engagement rings.
But while the inimitable Shirley Bassey sang that ‘Diamonds are forever,’ sometimes that isn’t always the case, and there are plenty of reasons that one might decide to sell pre-loved diamond jewellery. Raising funds by liquifying assets or simply falling out of love with a neglected item languishing in a drawer, sometimes the daywill come to part with your diamonds.

The vast range of sale options resulting from a casual search on the internet can be bewildering. Instant cash and same-day deals are initially seductive, but when you consider that all these potential buyers must factor in their profit margin, it becomes apparent that they will try to buy your jewellery for the lowest price possible to maximise profits.
Another option is to sell your jewellery with experts who will work on your behalf to achieve the best price for your piece. As an internationally renowned auction house, boasting a team of gemmologically qualified jewellery valuers, and our own in-house marketing team, Dawsons’ sole aim is to secure the highest prices in respect of any diamond jewellery that we take to auction for our clients.

An example of Dawsons’ expertise would be how our team determine the value of diamonds, which is by utilising a method known as the 4Cs (Cut, Carat Weight, Clarity and Colour), the universal method for assessing and certifying diamonds since 1940. Almost all natural diamonds will have inclusions (internal faults) and blemishes (external faults), which, although invisible to the naked eye, can affect light reflection and ‘sparkle’.
It should be noted that in order to achieve the maximum value, in certain cases, the diamonds within your jewellery will need to be certified. However, not all certification is equal, and therefore, your diamond must be certified by a reputable lab. Here at Dawsons, we work closely with the internationally renowned DeBeers Institute of Diamonds.

However, a diamond jewellery is not simply valued by the diamonds that embellish it. Other elements that appeal to buyers might include the age of the piece, the maker, the design, original packaging, condition, and provenance. Diamond jewellery can often be an investment—pieces with a story to tell can be more desirable to potential suitors, as they are naturally associated with glamour and romance.
Informed by global markets, Dawsons expert team of Jewellery Valuers will provide you with an accurate market valuation in respect of your diamond jewellery, whilst confidential sales advice and our very own bespoke targeted international marketing will help you to secure the best possible price.
