A Victorian agricultural silver trophy cup and cover; the urn-shaped bowl with leaf-capped scrolling side handles, a globular knopped- stem and semi-spherical base with three leaf-capped hoof feet and serpent entwined loop handles, the cover with a cast cow finial, gilt interior and chased throughout with trailing acorns and oak leaves, vacant cartouches to each side, Sheffield 1881 by W W Harrison & Co, 35.5cm high; together with a small trophy cup with commemorative inscription, and two medals agricultural medals in fitted case, won for Wensleydales and cream cheese production. The Rowntree and Wills families, to whom these medals and one of the trophy cups were presented, were pioneers in the making and initiation of factory production of cheese, with the aim of achieving consistently high and even quality.
