A fine Tibetan gilt metal figure of Tara, 15th/16th century, cast seated in lalitasana on a double lotus base the right hand lowered in Varadamudra and the left hand raised to the chest, each holding a flower stem, wearing a dhoti embellished with beaded jewellery inset with later turquoise glass cabochons, height 10.5 cm. Provenance: from a Berkshire private collection. It was given to the vendors great grandfather 120 years ago in China at the time of the Boxer Rebellion and has been in the family ever since.
