Sir Terence Conran (1931–2020)

British designer, retailer, restaurateur, and writer. Born in Kingston upon Thames, he studied at Central School of Arts and Crafts. In 1964 he founded Habitat, bringing affordable modern design to British homes. He later launched The Conran Shop and co-founded London’s Design Museum, cementing his role as a design pioneer. His career spanned furniture, interiors, publishing, and hospitality, with a strong belief that design could improve everyday life. Conran’s influence defined post-war British taste and he was knighted in 1983. His legacy continues through his businesses, museum, and the designers he championed.
