A George III hairwork mourning brooch, of oval form with glass compartment encasing locks of hair arranged in a scrolled pattern, tubular surround engraved with a repeating foliate motif, topped with a pendant bail and fitted with a hinged-pin stem and C-catch, reverse engraved with commemorative inscription dated 1855, in unmarked yellow metal surface testing as 9ct, measurements approximately 6.5cm x 5.5cm.
