This morning, Wednesday 23rd September, Dawsons held a dedicated Moorcroft pottery auction. The sale included 64 lots, all from one important private collection.
Broadcast live over the Internet, bidding was available online through DawsonsLive, 4 other auction platforms and by telephone. This was an international sale with buyers from the USA, Eire, Northern Europe and the UK.
The star of the sale was without doubt Lot 58, a rare William Moorcroft silver overlaid 'Pomegranate' pattern three piece tea set, dated 1912, decorated with a band of pomegranates, leaves and berries, that achieved a hammer price of £15,400.
Initial bidding was very strong online, quickly rising to £10,000. Then 2 clients who had booked telephone lines battled it out, back and forth for almost 10 minutes. The delighted winning bidder was a passionate UK based private collector.
