Michel Martin Drolling (1786-1851) French Portrait de l'Abbe Sicard (1742-1822), the abbe sat in a wingback armchair by a fireplace, holding a religious book, mounted within a gilt gesso moulded frame, After growing up under the artistic guidelines of his father, Martin Drolling (1752-1817), Michel M. Drolling became a pupil of Jacques Louis David, who influenced his style and method, and lead him to win the Prix de Rome in 1810 for his Death of Achilles. He then went on to exhibit at Salons and was given many important commissions, including one for the Palace of Versailles and the musee du Louvre.
